Inayat: A Duet for Four

June 10 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City festival, Inayat: A Duet for Four is a unique outdoor performance that brings together two ancient North Indian artistic traditions—Rajasthani folk music and classical Kathak dance. The production explores the rich cultural connections between music, storytelling, rhythm, and movement through newly choreographed works performed live in the heart of Lincoln Center.
The performance features renowned Rajasthani musicians Sadiq Khan, Asin Khan, and Zakir Khan Langa—collectively known as SAZ—alongside acclaimed young Kathak dancer Tarini Tripathi. The narrative framework is conceived by arts curator Divya Bhatia and draws inspiration from the oral traditions of Rajasthan’s Langa community.
Traditional folk songs from the deserts of western Rajasthan are paired with Kathak compositions and poetry, creating a contemporary interpretation of centuries-old performance traditions. Presented outdoors at Hearst Plaza, the production offers audiences an accessible introduction to the beauty of Indian music and dance.

About the Artists:
Tarini Tripathi is one of India’s leading young Kathak performers, known for combining technical virtuosity with innovative storytelling. The musicians of SAZ are celebrated internationally for preserving and performing the musical traditions of Rajasthan’s Langa community, whose heritage stretches back generations.
