Paheli – Bollywood Folk Tale Screening + DJ Rekha Reception at Asia Society

Asia Society’s summer film series Parallel Days/Bollywood Nights continues with a 35mm screening of Paheli (2005) — the magical folk tale starring Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji, directed by Amol Palekar.
In this beloved Bollywood classic, a neglected wife finds herself courted by her husband’s doppelgänger — a ghost who loves her in ways the living man never could. Based on a Rajasthani folktale and rich with music by Gulzar, Paheli bridges the worlds of popular and arthouse Indian cinema.
The screening will be followed by a reception with DJ Rekha, legendary for bringing bhangra beats to NYC nightlife.
